We can all step "1 foot
forward" to create a
more sustainable world.
Slowly, with small steps,
we can make change happen.

Inspiration
My name is Maya. I'm 10 years old.
I hear adults argue about how hard it is to improve our climate and make our community more sustainable.
What I don't understand is why more people don't take small daily steps to make progress.
I say kids should organize! We can take small steps and work together to make our world and community a greener place to live.
That's why I started my project: 1footfwd
What I'm Doing
My focus right now is selling 1-square-foot wildflower kits. Look at the photos above to see examples.
But, my project has bigger aims. I'm actually selling the idea that kids can take action today for a greener community.
If your parents want a perfect green lawn, maybe they'll let you plant a single foot of flowers in your yard.
If you have a street tree, you could plant a 1 foot garden underneath it.
It's your choice whether, when and how you move one foot forward. I'm sharing one easy way.

I will have a table at the Chatham Sustainability Fair on Sept 20
I have to stay safe online. To contact me, please use the website chat button.
I'm sharing my idea to find partners who want to turn this idea into action.
-
I've partnered with the Chatham/Madison Garden Club to plant a demonstration garden at the Chatham Public Library.
-
The Chatham Shade Tree Commission will be planting my gardens under 100 new or recently planted street trees in our town
-
NEXT - I'm asking the towns of Chatham and Madison to plant native pollinator gardens under the trees between our towns to create a "Monarch Main Street"
